Apprenticeship Mechatronics with AIDA

Are you about to complete your secondary school education and would like to start training for a career in an exciting field? Do you dream of a job with strong prospects for the future?

AIDA is the only cruise line that educates mechatronic technicians in the naval sector. Participants in the mechatronics training program develop expertise focusing on the high-tech equipment used on modern ships. The Rostock Chamber of Industry and Commerce have granted AIDA Cruises an award for this innovative and high-quality training program.

Charted Course

Onboard a cruise ship, mechatronic technicians are responsible for a broad range of duties – including the analysis, maintenance and repair of electronics, control systems, and HVAC equipment, as well as drive, engine, steam, and security technologies. Mechatronic technicians must also understand complex emergency and firefighting systems. The mechatronic trainees are educated onboard by experienced officers. In addition to practical training at sea, students attend courses on land at two different schools in Rostock.

Structure and Content

Over the course of a training period of three and a half years, young professionals learn on land and at sea how to repair and maintain electrical and mechanical systems. They gain expertise in complex naval systems and, in the third year, they receive specialized training in electrical engineering, HVAC systems, or hotel technology.

Note: The apprenticeship “Mechatronics” of AIDA Cruises is held in German language only.

Advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife) or general university entrance qualification (Abitur)? Would you find just studying too dull? Then combine this vocational training with the dual bachelor's degree in marine engineering!
