Bachelor of Marine Electrical Engineering
This degree program ends with a bachelor’s degree and contains a combination of electrical engineering, electronics, and communications technology. Furthermore, this program serves to prepare you for the planned certification by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a Ship’s Electrical Engineer.
Charted Course
As an Electrotechnical Officer or a Communications Officer, you are responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and repairing the complex electrotechnical equipment and systems onboard, ensuring that they function correctly around the clock. This includes all hotel and entertainment equipment as well as security and bridge systems.
Structure and Content
The first year of studies focuses on the fundamentals in mathematics, information technology, physics, and an introduction to electrotechnology. The second part of the program covers specific skills related to electrotechnology and electronics, and is complemented with detailed knowledge of the cruise industry. You will be able to apply the knowledge you have acquired in a practical manner during a six-month internship on board a ship. You will complete the degree program after fours year with the requisite exams and the submission of a bachelor’s thesis. In addition, you will attend lectures specific to the cruise industry held by the European Cruise Academy, which will provide a comprehensive look at the modern cruise industry.

- an Abitur (diploma from German secondary school qualifying for university admission) or advanced technical college entrance qualification
- your strengths include good grades in scientific courses
- good English and German skills
- and fitness for working at sea in an engineering position.
Career Prospects
After graduating with this bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, you will be able to advance your career up to the level of Chief Electrician, ideally in combination with a master’s degree.
