The course will display the state of the cruise industry with particular emphasis upon the development from a pure niche product to a fast growing sector of the tourism industry. Later on the course will give a detailed summary of business administration in a modern cruise enterprise environment whereby all areas from finance and accountancy, human resources management up to marketing & sales are covered. Furthermore, the course focuses on the guest management on board as a key element for a successful product. The different elements and product variations will be looked at and their contribution to satisfied guests on one hand and the influence on onboard revenue on the other. Modern methods of customer retentions are introduced and how CRM systems can assist.
The student shall be able to identify and understand the specifics of the cruise industry. He will furthermore gain detailed knowledge about business administration in a typical and modern cruise enterprise enabling him to act in a more business focused manner. He will learn to understand the importance of a guest minded approach and its consequences for product diversity and business development.
The course is aimed at officers, engineers, superintendents and managers who already have first experience in the operation of ships and who are interested in learning more about the specifics of business administration in a modern cruise enterprise environment. It is beneficial to hold at least an undergraduate degree or alternative proof of an academic level. A good command in English language is required.
For the participation in Course C, the European Cruise Academy will charge an attendance fee amounting to EUR 1,700. It covers the lectures and administrative services.
The course is realized on-campus: lectures are conducted in Rostock-Warnemünde (Germany), in our seminar rooms provided next to the Department of Maritime Studies.
