The course focuses on the development of management skills. It delivers a comprehensive set up of methods, instruments and techniques for the purpose of enhancing the individual skills of a person with leadership responsibility. It addresses the management of human resources in a shipboard environment especially when dealing with multinational and multicultural teams. It takes account of the regulatory framework of social accountability. To enhance communication skills, a second foreign language is taught.
The participant shall learn how best to enhance his personal and social competencies with the purpose to strengthen his leadership capabilities in a multinational and multicultural environment of a cruise ship. He will learn how to optimize time and resources, how to lead projects to success and how to improve presentation techniques. With the information on regulatory framework the participant will get an understanding of existing social accountability standards. With the basics of a second language the participant will improve communication skills.

The course has been developed for officers, engineers, superintendents and managers who are familiar with ship operation yet with limited leadership experience and who seek to acquire senior management positions either on board or ashore.
For the participation in Course D, the European Cruise Academy will charge an attendance fee amounting to EUR 1,200. It covers the lectures and administrative services.
The course is realized on-campus: lectures are conducted in Rostock-Warnemünde (Germany), in our seminar rooms provided next to the Department of Maritime Studies.
