Maritime Law and Communication (Course E)

The training course provides a detailed review on maritime law. It delivers expert knowledge in the branches which are relevant for the cruise industry. This includes the most important IMO conventions and their enforcement by flag and port states respectively followed by labour and contract law. Another subject is the liability of ship owners and tour operators and the management of claims. The course will be conducted by specialists in maritime law, insurance and claim management. Lessons of theory are replaced by practical examples, case studies and project works. In addition, the course covers special aspects of maritime communication, conversation and correspondence in English.

The participant will gain an insight knowledge in maritime law surrounding the operation of cruise ships and service to passengers. He will learn which law applies when and what is the impact. He will be able to differentiate between national and international legislation and how they interrelate. With the lessons learned the student will be able to carefully interpret relevant rules and regulations before he takes decisions.

Target group

The program has been developed for officers, engineers, superintendents and managers with experience in ship operation who seek to aquire senior management positions either on board or ashore where they will be faced to take decisions based on a profound knowledge of the applicable law.

Location and fees

For the participation in Course E, the European Cruise Academy will charge an attendance fee amounting to EUR 1,400. It covers the lectures and administrative services.

The course is realized on-campus: lectures are conducted in Rostock-Warnemünde (Germany), in our seminar rooms provided next to the Department of Maritime Studies.
